What to do this summer in California

If you are spending your first ever summer in California this year, you might not know what the state has to offer just yet! Fret not, however, since we are here to help! Whether you are planning a road trip or a beach holiday, here is a list of what to do this summer in California to help guide you through a fun summer!

Visit the natural wonders this state has to offer!

California is gorgeous, and it would be a downright shame not to take advantage of its beauty! Go out! Explore! Here are just some of the beautiful places that could be yours to enjoy:

Lake Tahoe:

This absolutely stunning lake offers refuge from the oppressive summer heat. We won’t lie to you; California can get hot! But, lake Tahoe provides a much-needed reprieve with its many hiking trails, an abundance of water sports, and the blessedly cool air.

Lassen Volcanic National Park:

Slightly different from the lake but fascinating nonetheless. There is something unique in a landscape formed due to volcanic activity, and this Park truly brings out that charm with its meandering hills and vivid colors.

Big Sur

Enchanting. That would be the one word used to describe this destination! With mountains meeting the ocean, the scenery offers something for everyone to enjoy, and the ride you will take through the area is sure to be memorable with the beautiful shades of cerulean and sapphire of the shore.

Sequoia High Sierra Camp

This one is for mountain lovers! With some fantastic views and an outdoorsy experience, this Camp comes with an advantage for those of us who still like their comforts: You get to sleep in a real bed away from the insects you didn’t properly defend yourself again!

Glass Beach

Turns out, if you throw garbage at nature, it can still create something beautiful! Once used as a dumping ground, it has turned into a kaleidoscope of multicolored ‘sea glass’. It is a unique sight, and it would be a shame not to visit!

If nature is not really your speed…

Not everybody likes spending time in nature, and that’s okay! If you are more interested in unique tourist attractions, boy, do we have some for you!

RMS Queen Mary

Once a genuinely massive ocean liner circulating between America and Britain, Mary has now turned into a fascinating fixture of Long Beach! Functioning as a shopping plaza, hotel, restaurant, and even museum, this old boat offers plenty of new things to see!

Solvang

This tiny town looks like something straight out of European fairy tales! It is also absolutely packed with bakeries and chocolate shops, so you will be able to let your sweet tooth loose!

Winchester Mystery House

This one is for lovers of unusual architecture and spooky things! The house is as mind-boggling as it is pretty, with stairs and hallways sometimes leading nowhere. This and its oddly shaped doors have led to many theories about why it was designed like this!

Monterey Bay Aquarium

With a fantastic selection of aquatic life to appreciate, Monterey Bay Aquarium is also a scenic spot for romantic dates! The low light and beautiful sights make for a great atmosphere to spend relaxed time with your loved one.

Legoland California

A classic? Perhaps, but there’s no better place to take your little ones out to play! This isn’t to say adults can’t enjoy themselves. You can never really be too old for Lego!

The best festivals for you to enjoy!

You might also be tempted to opt for activities with a bit more bustle! Well, California organizes some great festivals and has an incredible cultural scene!

Balboa Island Art Walk

As the name implies, visitors to this festival can enjoy artists’ works through paintings, sculptures, and jewelry they have carefully crafted. All the while listening to some excellent music!

Millbrae Art and Wine Festival

Good food, plenty for kids to do, and amazing handcrafted works of talented artists! What’s not to enjoy about this festival? Be careful, though. There is some food you may want to avoid when traveling.

Palo Alto Glass Pumpkin Festival

A truly unique event, the visitors will be able to admire carefully crafted and artfully arranged glass pumpkins. The pumpkins can be purchased too, as a great souvenir!

Sunset Beach Art Festival

With plenty of good food and art, the highlight of this festival is the presentation of a quilt, sewn by the local community members and marked with various symbols representing everyone who had participated.

Cities you simply must visit!

There is something to be said about appreciating the unique atmosphere of any city! However, here are a few cities you should visit to get the whole ‘California’ summer experience

Los Angeles

Perhaps a classic, especially with its beautiful beaches, it is a must-see destination. There are so many family activities in LA, your kids may not want to leave. Lovely weather, fantastic seaside, fun activities, and family-friendly pastimes really make LA stand out on our list.

San Francisco

There is something uniquely fascinating about the city’s hilly appearance, even if going up all those beautiful hills can be a bit painful! The Golden Gate Bridge is an irresistible draw with its misty and quaint atmosphere.

Anaheim

You might be tempted to make a trip here just to see Disneyland, but give the city itself a chance as well! Anaheim has plenty of lovely scenery to offer all of its own.

Sacramento

The city has some great museums, offering plenty for the history buffs among our readers. It also has a bustling nightlife for anyone who prefers action and passion to more scholarly endeavors.

Santa Barbara

Stunningly picturesque! This quaint destination is also quite close to Los Angeles, so it is pretty convenient for those living there or just visiting to make a day trip and experience what Santa Barbara offers.

There is also New Port Beach with many places to see and a lot to do, and so many places more. The best thing to do is visit and see where the road takes you.

As you can see, whatever your preferences are, California can deliver. So much so that you might be tempted to call Good Neighbors Moving Company and start planning for you relocation here. Well, you will have to decide on the best town to move to first. That’s a topic for another article.

Final Word

We hope that we have offered something for you to look forward to this summer if you already have a home in California! And for those who are still considering whether a move here is a wise choice: well, we hope we have given you a reason to do so! This concludes our guide on what to do this summer in California.
