What is the hCG Diet Plan?

HCG, or human chorionic gonadotropin, is a hormone typically produced during pregnancy. The hormone supports the development of a baby and peaks during the first several weeks of pregnancy.

This diet plan involves the injection or use of hCG supplements.

It is theorized that the hormone utilizes stored fat in the body as energy, and when combined with a calorie restriction, promotes quick weight loss. The advised calorie restriction is anywhere from 500 to 800 calories a day.

How Does the hCG Meal Plan Work?

This weight loss program is broken into three phases, the first of which is the loading phase. This phase encourages individuals to eat high fat and high-calorie diet for a couple of days, aligned with the first hCG hormone injections or supplements. This step is supposed to supply the body with a store of healthy fats so that it can begin the process of burning stored fat.

The second phase is the weight loss phase.

During the weight loss phase, individuals adhere to the calorie restriction while keeping up the dosage of hCG. Most recommend splitting the allowed calories for the day between two meals. Individuals that follow this program may lose 1-2 pounds each day.
